Wine Tour Vigne Surrau
Gallura is also known for its excellent wines, including Vermentino di Gallura D.O.C.G. The Surrau Cellars dominate a property of over 50 hectares of land largely covered by vineyards. The project interprets the cellar as a workplace that transforms a product of the earth through processes made visible, which guarantee its genuineness and quality.
The architectural project born from a harmonious research between construction and nature, in which the building is characterized by a sequence of transparent facades overlooking the splendid valley of the vineyards and the typical dry stone walls in local stone that blend with the earth and the landscape.
Vermentino di Gallura is a DOCG white wine produced in Sardinia, and more specifically in Gallura, an area that extends in the north-eastern part of the region, between the provinces of Sassari and Nuoro, once a land of shepherds and transhumance, now consecrated to tourism coast of the Costa Smeralda.
On this island, arid and hostile to the most common agricultural crops and continually beaten by the mistral winds, Vermentino di Gallura is able to reveal itself with its strong personality as an excellent wine among the best in the world.
History: Vermentino di Gallura has Spanish origins, it arrived in Sardinia only in the last decades of the nineteenth century, passing first from Corsica and then from Liguria.
Production: produced for 95-100% from the homonymous grape, and with a possible contribution of local grapes, Vermentino is a soft and intense wine. This grape, particularly sweet and fruitful, has a large and robust stem, with branches tinged with red and large leaves. The clusters are large, elongated in shape, now almost cylindrical, now pyramidal, with round and large berries, with a thin skin and a light color with various shades of yellow depending on the level of ripeness, which takes place at the end of September.
Honors: this excellent Sardinian wine obtained the Controlled and Certified Designation of Origin in 1996.
